The Weather Outside Is Frightful But The Hiking Oh So Delightful

So anyone currently on the East Coast knows it’s been raining pretty much non-stop for the past few days and it looks like there’s no end in sight.  I had one really sunny day here in Bar Harbor and then no sunshine for the past three days.  No way its going to dampen my outdoorsy spirit, as a matter of fact hiking in the inclement weather the past few days has been exceptionally beautiful.

Acadia National Park   has always held special memories for me.  In 1995 I took the entire month of August off from work, rented a house in Ellsworth and did nothing but hike in the park and bake Nestle Toll House cookies.  Every year I thought about coming back to Acadia but somehow never made it. Its taken 16 years to get back here and it’s just as amazing as I remember it. I think part of the magic of Acadia is that I don’t know anywhere else you can hike through the woods, climb a mountain peak and emerge at the summit surrounded by water and islands in every direction.

The gateway to Acadia NP is Bar Harbor a quaint costal Maine town with great restaurants, shops and every type of water-based activity you can think of.  All in all it’s one of my favorite places in the United States, so far anyway.  Here are some photos from the past three days of hiking.

I think you and ducks are the only ones enjoying this dismal weather we’re having.
